Building My First (Proper) Website

You know, getting this all set up was definitely tougher than I first imagined when I began my journey of building my own website. This wasn’t my first rodeo though, as I’ve built a simple site in HTML back in high school and set up a Wix site for my college portfolio. Yet here I am now flailing like a chicken without its head trying to figure out WordPress.org with it being this Frankenstein’s Monster of widget editing and coding—and not in the way that feels intuitive.

But I also recognize that I’m no competent coder…or at least not yet. I’m a storyteller first who thinks we’re experiencing the worst version of the internet right now so here I am trying to carve out my own little space. Maybe it would’ve been better to try and build something on Neocities first but my stubbornness led me here so here I’ll stick till I pull my hair out or I find a better way to build my site.

But for now, welcome to those that take the time to read—whether I’ve sent you my link and you’ve decided to look deep or you’ve just stumbled across here on your own. I hope you enjoy what I have around here even if its not set up professionally.

(Also I’m not using any AI for coding even if I’d probably benefit greatly from it as I’ve heard that some Gen AIs built on open source code are actually quite decent and I haven’t inherited the coding skills of my father. I also don’t use any AI for any of my work—I do believe that there are ways to use this tech ethically but right now no current tools exist and I lack the skills to create such programs. I mainly wanted to throw that out there as I know em dashes are or once was seen as a red flag for AI use but man…em dashes are such a nice tool especially once you learn how to actually use them. “Win + .” is the shortcut to use em dash on windows, though you have to look for it past the emojis and other symbols. Oy vey.)
